Train Sim World 7 Compatible Content
TSW7 downloads of older add-ons, Steam during early access, consoles at full launch.
What “compatible” means here
Compatible content is Dovetail’s name for add-ons — routes and locomotives — that can travel with your account into the latest Train Sim World. You buy them once on a platform. When a new numbered game arrives, you download the Train Sim World 7 version of each add-on when that version is ready. You do not keep launching Train Sim World 6 to drive last year’s map inside 7.
“TSW Compatible” on a store page is a warning as well as a promise. Features may remain as they were on the original release. They may not use every new TSW7 system. Freight Hauler is the clear example: at launch it only supports TSW7 core routes, even if your library is huge. Simplified physics from beginner controls do apply across trains, including older cabs, but only in Timetable and Free Roam.
Backwards compatibility — using a new add-on inside an older numbered game — ended with Train Sim World 5. Do not expect a TSW7 exclusive to appear in TSW6.
Early access versus full launch
Deluxe and Ultimate early access began 10 September 2026 (consoles 16:00 BST, PC 18:00 BST). Full launch is 15 September 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Steam, and the Epic Games Store. There is no PlayStation 4 or Xbox One client, and older-generation “Gen 8 compatible” flags on historic add-ons do not bring those consoles back.
Steam can use compatible content during early access once the TSW7 downloads exist. Consoles wait for full launch. If you are on PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series during the five-day Deluxe window, play the three cores and the Deluxe locos. Do not treat a missing Bakerloo or Schnellfahrstrecke tile as a failed copy.
Ultimate Edition bundles selected Train Sim World 6 Deluxe routes into that TSW7 library: Riviera Line, Class 220, Leipzig–Dresden, Nahverkehr Dresden, BR 294, Morristown Line, and NJ Transit ALP-45DP. Those are still compatible-style packages. They are not the three launch cores. Compare SKUs on the editions page.
How to download the TSW7 copies
The empty-menu rule from how to download Train Sim World 7 applies twice. First you install Free Starter plus the four route add-ons that make Standard. Then you queue every older add-on’s TSW7 download. Starting the shell before those finish still shows a thin menu.
- Steam: DLC list on the Train Sim World 7 app, not the TSW6 app.
- Epic: library extras for TSW7.
- PlayStation 5: Manage Game Content on the TSW7 tile; extra steps versus Xbox, so read the list slowly.
- Xbox Series: Manage game and add-ons.
Disc owners who never tied those add-ons to an account need Dovetail’s product-key claim flow. Digital owners on the same platform and account should see the TSW7 versions as entitlements to download, not as new purchases.
Dovetail’s add-on database is the live list of which packages layer onto which timetables, which locos support faults, and which layers need extra purchases. Use it when a service you expected is greyed out. This wiki’s routes hub and trains hub cover the TSW7 cores in depth; they are not a mirror of the entire historic catalogue.
What carries, and what does not
Core launch play is still Airedale & Wharfedale, Florida Tri-Rail, and Bahnstrecke Nürnberg–Würzburg with the stock on standard locomotives and deluxe locomotives. Older routes join Journey, Timetable, Scenario, and Free Roam when their TSW7 build is ready. They do not automatically join Freight Hauler.
Layers work the same idea as previous years: own the extra loco add-on, and extra diagrams appear on a route that supports that layer. ICE 4 on Nürnberg–Würzburg is a TSW7 Deluxe layer, not a compatible leftover. A historic diesel you already own might layer onto a new core if Dovetail wired it; check the database instead of assuming.
PC graphics (DirectX 12 default, Epic preset, DLSS 4.5, FSR 4) apply to the TSW7 client as a whole. An older route running inside 7 can look better than it did in 6 even if its timetable was not rebuilt for Freight Hauler. Tune that in graphics settings after system requirements. Steam Cloud is supported. Deck verification was hoped for, not a reason to install 40 add-ons on a handheld first.
The Tadami Line is a new third-party add-on on the roadmap, not a compatible leftover. New purchases after 15 September still need the TSW7 download path described here.
Walk getting started on a core route before you drown the SSD in nostalgia. Then pick one old favourite, download only that TSW7 package, and see whether you still like the cab. The game modes page tells you which tiles that favourite will populate. The rest of the guides hub stays useful even when the library is large: beginner controls, download order, and Freight Hauler do not change because you own fifty maps.
Do not measure Train Sim World 7 by whether last year’s favourite route layers on day one of early access. Measure it by the three core networks, then invite the old collection in after the TSW7 download exists on your platform.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
Do I have to buy my old add-ons again?
No, not if they are on the same platform and account. You download the Train Sim World 7 version when Dovetail marks it ready. Disc keys may need a claim form.
Can I play compatible content during early access?
Steam can, once the TSW7 downloads are ready. PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series wait for full launch on 15 September 2026. See the launch page.
Will Freight Hauler work on my old routes?
Not at launch. Freight Hauler only supports TSW7 core routes then. Dovetail is exploring more timetables later.
What does Ultimate add if I already own TSW6 Deluxe?
Ultimate bundles selected TSW6 Deluxe routes (Riviera Line, Class 220, Leipzig–Dresden, Nahverkehr Dresden, BR 294, Morristown Line, ALP-45DP) into the TSW7 purchase. Compare SKUs on the editions page.
Why is an old route missing after I installed TSW7?
The TSW7 add-on download has not finished, or consoles are still in the early-access window. Follow how to download Train Sim World 7 and wait for full launch on consoles.
Does compatible content include PlayStation 4 versions?
No. Train Sim World 7 is PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Steam, and Epic only. Older-generation flags on historic add-ons do not bring PS4 or Xbox One back.
