Airedale & Wharfedale in Train Sim World 7

Airedale & Wharfedale Network is the UK core route in Train Sim World 7. The modelled railway runs Leeds and Bradford to Skipton and Ilkley: about 54 miles, 19 stations, Neville Hill depot, the Rylstone Quarry branch, and Hunslet East. Full launch is 15 September 2026. Deluxe and Ultimate editions open five days of early access from 10 September 2026, which is also when the Class 333 fishbowl EMU joins the diagrams.

If you are new, finish Training Center with the getting started guide, then come back here for a Class 331 stopping service rather than an Azuma reversal. Compare this corridor with Florida Tri-Rail and Nürnberg–Würzburg from the routes hub when you want a different country.

Network and traction

The passenger layer is a July 2025 Northern timetable. Most work is Class 331/0 and Class 331/1, maintained at Neville Hill east of Leeds. Deluxe adds the Northern Class 333. Train allocation follows real diagrams with one gameplay exception: many Class 333 turns can also be driven with a four-car Class 331/1 so Standard players still have those jobs. For accuracy, AI substitution should pick the 333 if you own it, because no four-car 331s were diagrammed to run in Leeds in that summer 2025 timetable.

LNER Class 801 Azuma shares the wires in 5-car, 9-car, and 10-car formations. Sixteen LNER services connect Skipton and Bradford Forster Square toward London with a reversal at Leeds. Empty coaching stock is also playable across the route and at Neville Hill. The included Class 801 has been upgraded with sounds from the Riviera Line Class 802 and announcement source files supplied by LNER.

Freight is a complete flow, uncommon for a modern UK Train Sim World route. A Class 66 in red DB livery hauls HYA limestone hoppers between Rylstone Quarry, on the freight branch that diverges at Skipton, and a concrete plant at Hunslet East near Neville Hill. Drivers change ends and run around to enter and exit the freight-only lines, and some paths sit in loops to wait for a later slot through the passenger flow. The route is Freight Hauler compatible.

Northern service patterns

Northern electrics do not run simple there-and-back diagrams. Five patterns swap through the day, so staying with one unit for a few hours usually covers the whole network:

• 2HXX Leeds to Skipton, 72 services
• 2VXX Leeds to Ilkley, 74 services
• 2DXX Ilkley to Bradford Forster Square, 53 services
• 2SXX Bradford Forster Square to Skipton, 53 services

After the last passenger, you can take stock to Neville Hill for the wash and servicing shed. Other units stable in a Skipton yard or in the platforms at Leeds, Bradford, or Ilkley. Empty stock movements sit around 34.

Shipley is the junction that makes the network feel like a triangle rather than a single main line. Keighley also includes two inaccessible heritage platforms populated with Mk1 static stock; that five-mile railway is scenery, not a driveable add-on.

Scenarios

Five scenarios ship with the route. Deluxe Class 333 adds three more. They are the scripted way to learn branches before you live in the timetable.

Sunday Shuttle puts a Class 331 on a Bradford to Shipley shuttle after weekend engineering cancels the usual Leeds to Bradford trains. Midnight Train from Platform Zero is a Class 331 Leeds to Bradford working that leans into the late hour. Calling in a Favour puts you on a Class 801 from Skipton to Leeds, making local stops after another train fails. Wagon Trouble is the Class 66 job: deliver a failed wagon to the depot, then finish at reduced speed. Digital Detox fails the leading Class 331 cab, so you turn on the Shipley triangle and finish from the other end before taking the set to the depot.

Deluxe scenarios are Call to Depot Duty (a morning as a Neville Hill depot driver), Divine Diversion (a shortened diverted passenger), and Railway Roll Call (a trainspotting outing with camera and notebook).

Life around the railway

Track workers in orange high-vis spawn at around 100 hand-placed locations. Sound the horn as you approach; they stand clear of the rail. Work vans sit at track access points. Eight station cats live on the route, with nametags based on real cats. They are pettable. They move indoors in rain and disappear at night.

Seasonal decorations appear at some stations, including lights in December and pumpkins in October. After dark on Bonfire Night (5 November), towns along the railway run fireworks. Hunt the one station that builds a snowman whenever it snows.

Deluxe, editions, and later stock

Class 333 is the Deluxe Yorkshire extra. It is the fishbowl EMU Northern used on these lines, and it is the reason many players pick Deluxe rather than Standard. See deluxe locomotives and compare SKUs on editions. The trains hub lists core and Deluxe traction together.

Tadami Line is not a Yorkshire layer and not a launch-day core route. It is a Japan add-on dated 29 September 2026. Track it on the roadmap.

Start with a 2PXX or 2VXX Class 331, then a limestone run, then an Azuma reversal. That order teaches the triangle before depot duty or midnight diagrams.
