How to Download Train Sim World 7

Five items for Standard, an empty-menu trap, and platform queues.

How to Download

What you are actually downloading

Train Sim World 7 is not one package with every route inside the base executable. For Standard, Dovetail counts five items: the Free Starter Edition plus four route add-ons. Deluxe and Ultimate add extra loco and route packages on top. Compatible add-ons you already own are yet more Train Sim World 7 downloads when those TSW7 versions are ready.

The game can open as soon as Free Starter finishes. If the route add-ons are still in the queue, the menu looks empty. That is not a broken install. Close Train Sim World 7, let the remaining items finish, then open it again. This is the usual fix, and it is the first thing to try before you rebuild shaders or verify files.

Full launch is 15 September 2026. Deluxe and Ultimate early access began 10 September 2026 at 16:00 BST on consoles and 18:00 BST on PC. Platforms are PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Steam, and the Epic Games Store. There is no PlayStation 4 or Xbox One client.

Confirm the SKU on the editions comparison so you know how many extra tiles should appear:

Platform queues

Steam. There is no preload. When your edition unlocks, install the Free Starter app, then open the DLC list and tick every Train Sim World 7 add-on in the bundle. Steam can also pull compatible content during early access if those TSW7 downloads are ready. Steam Cloud is supported. Dovetail hoped for Steam Deck verification; still install on a desktop first so you can see whether five items finished.

Epic Games Store. Same idea as Steam: no preload, base plus add-ons. Use the library extras list, not just the big Install button, or you will launch Starter alone.

PlayStation 5. Manage Game Content for the Train Sim World 7 tile and download every listed add-on. PlayStation can preload about 48 hours before early access or full launch, but the add-on list still needs a manual pass. Compatible older routes wait for full launch on consoles.

Xbox Series X/S. Queue from Manage game and add-ons. Xbox can start the download from the pre-order date, but the same empty-menu rule applies if Starter finishes first. Console compatible content waits for 15 September.

Exact store labels differ, but the rule does not: Free Starter is the bootable shell; routes are separate. If you own Deluxe, also confirm the three extra locos are in the queue, not only the three core maps. Included traction for those maps is listed on standard locomotives.

After the progress bars

Walk getting started once the menu shows Training Center plus your paid routes. Leave beginner controls on. Do not jump into Freight Hauler until a timetable service has proved the route actually loaded.

On PC, leave DirectX 12 as the default. Check system requirements if the first load hitch looks like a hardware problem rather than a missing add-on. Tune DLSS 4.5, FSR 4, and the Epic preset from graphics settings after the content is on disk. Bindings are on the controls reference.

If you already own older Train Sim World add-ons, you still need the Train Sim World 7 version of each one. Steam players can use that library during early access; consoles wait for full launch. Features such as Freight Hauler stay limited to TSW7 core routes at launch even when an old favourite appears in the menu. The Tadami Line is a later purchase on the roadmap, not part of the Standard five-item set.

Disk space is not one number. Starter is small compared with three full routes, high-speed stock, and any back-catalogue downloads. Keep tens of gigabytes free before you start Ultimate plus compatible content. If a route tile is missing while another is present, you did not fail the install; one add-on is still queued.

Times and edition notes also sit on the launch page and the rest of the guides hub. Game mode tiles only populate for content that finished downloading; see game modes once the list is real.

If the menu is empty, you do not have a broken copy of Train Sim World 7. You launched the shell. Close it, watch the four route add-ons finish, then come back and open Training Center like a person who waited.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

How many downloads does Standard need?

Five: Free Starter plus four route add-ons. Deluxe and Ultimate add extra loco and route packages. Compatible older add-ons are separate TSW7 downloads.

Why can I launch the game but see no routes?

Free Starter finished first. Close Train Sim World 7 until the remaining add-ons complete, then reopen. This is the usual empty-menu fix.

Can I preload on Steam or Epic?

No. Steam and Epic have no preload. PlayStation can preload about 48 hours before unlock. Xbox can queue from the pre-order date. See the launch page for times.

When do console players get older add-ons?

Consoles wait for full launch on 15 September 2026. Steam can use compatible content during early access when those TSW7 downloads are ready.

Does Freight Hauler download separately?

No. Freight Hauler is a mode inside Train Sim World 7. It only runs on TSW7 core routes at launch. Read the Freight Hauler guide after the core maps finish installing.
